About Housing Application for 2024-2025

How isHousing and Residence Life addressing increasingenrollment to ensure that as manynew students as possible receive the benefit of on-campus living?

All traditionaland most suite stylebeds aredesignated first-year beds and only released after new first-year and new transfer students are assigned.In addition, Housing and Residence Lifereserves some beds for new transfer and new grad students.

Additionally, some First-Year Learning Communities are located inapartments.

How doesthe application process for current studentswork?

Current Georgia Tech Students applyfor Housing inphases beginning in late January:

1. Rising Second-Year Students

2. All Current Residents + Rising Second-Year Students

3. All Currently EnrolledGeorgia Tech Students

The waitlist isactivated as soon as we reach capacity, at which point we will update thewebsite and the My Housing portal.A process to request “waitlistpriority consideration” opens after the waitlist begins.

Are students who lived on campus in the fall of 2023but whoco-op, studying abroad, or internin the spring of 2024,considered current residents?

Yes. Students who havean Academic Year 2023-2024Housing Contract and cancelfor spring to complete a verified co-op, internship, or study abroadare considered “current residents” and can begin applying when the application opens for current residents.

Can third and fourth year students live in North Ave?

Any currentundergraduate student is eligible to live in North Ave Apartments for AY 2024-2025.

How do I know that I have a space on campus?

Students who successfully completea 2024-2025housing applicationand are not on the waitlist, will have a space on campus. You can verify your application by logging in to My Housingandselecting “Application” from the menu.

How do I know if I am on the waitlist?

Once the waitlist is activated, any student who applies will see amessagein the My Housingportalthat they are applying for the 2024-2025Housing Waitlist. Students should complete the application and sign their contractto be added to the waitlist.They will receive a waitlist number and may view their waitlist number at any time by logging into My Housing and viewing their 2024-2025Housing Application.Students who cancel while on the waitlist do not pay a cancellation penalty.

How do I know what number I am on the waitlist?

To view your up-to-date waitlist number,log onto yourMy Housing portal.You viewyour up-to-date waitlist number and watch it change here by following the steps below:

  • Click on Application in the gold bar at the top.
  • Open the applicationterm you want to see.
  • Click on the "Application Summary" and your waitlist number will be at the top of that page.
What is “Waitlist Priority Consideration” andhow does it work?

Students on the waitlist will have an opportunity to submit a request to receive priorityconsideration for assignments as they become available.Possible reasons for priority considerationinclude financial need,campus housing required by a scholarship, or other mitigating factors. Students approved for priority consideration will be assigned as space becomes available from cancellations. Priority Waitlist Consideration approval does not guarantee an assignment. This process occurs in July.

When can I expect to get an assignment if I am on the waitlist?

Students on the waitlist shouldnot expect to learn of any available assignments until July.They shouldconsider alternateplans for fall housing.

How does the phased application timelineimpact roommate selection and/or room self-assign processes?

These processes are not impacted. All students with a completed application who are not on the waitlistwill begin roommate selection in late February and the room self-assign process will begin in early March. Time-tickets for self-assign are issued inorder of GeorgiaTechcredit hours (more credit hours = earlier self-assign time ticket).

If my intended roommate is on the waitlist and I am not, can I pull them into my room during self-assign?

No. You will not be able to select anyone who is on the waitlist during roommate selection.

Ilive or want to liveintheupper-class block ofmyLearning Community– Explore, Global Leadership, Grand Challenges, Honors Program.How does this phased application process impact me?

Students who live or want to live in their Learning Community upper-class block should apply for housing as soon as possible during their designatedphase.You will be asked during the application process if you would like to live in the upper-class block with your Learning Community.Remember,during roommate selection,studentswho selected to liveintheirupper-class Learning Community blocks can only select fromother LC members who have also selected the upper-class block. If you select to live in your upper-class block but you are on the waitlist, you will have the option to accept an assignment only in your upper-class block OR the first available assignment.

I have applied to live in WST or I-House. How does the phased application process impact me?

WST and I-Houseapplicantswho meet Learning Community applicationdeadlineswill be reviewed by Learning Community staff. Admitted Learning Community students who applyto Housing during their designatedapplicationphasewill be assigned to their respective Learning Community.Learn more about applying to WST and I-HouseHERE.

I want to live in the Second-Year Experience(2YE)Community. How does the phased application process impact me?

All rising-second year students will have the option to select the Second-Year Experience when they complete the Housing application. Students who successfully complete theirHousingapplication by the end of the phaseand are admitted to 2YE will have the opportunity to select a 2YE roommate and 2YE roomonly. Are Learning Community* students on the waitlist different than non-Learning Community students?

WST and I-House – Students must complete a separateLearningCommunityapplicationANDHousingApplication.If a student is admittedtoWST or I-House while on theHousing waitlist, theywillbeassigned to any available spacein thecommunityimmediately. 2YEandUpper-Class blocks for Explore, Global Leadership, Grand Challenges, Honors Program, and Impact –Studentsselectto live withthecommunityintheir Housing application.If they areplacedon theHousing waitlist,they will beassigned asspace intheir selected community becomes available OR they may choose to accept any first available space in waitlist order.

What resources are there for students who may need to look for off-campus housing?

What if I am planning to graduate in Fall 2024, and really, really need to live on campus?

You should plan to sign up as soon as your designatedphaseopens.If you areon the waitlist, you shouldcompletetheWaitlist Priority Consideration form that will be available later in the spring semester.

How does the phased application process impact Family Housing?

Current Family Housing residents who wish to apply for 2024-2025will receive specific instructions regarding their application process and deadlines.

How doesthis phased application process impactthe RA application process?

Any student whoappliesto be a Resident Assistant and wants to live on campus even if they are not selected as an RA should apply for Housing during theirdesignatedapplicationphase.Students who are not selected for an RA positionarenotautomatically provided on-campus housing.Remember, RA’s (in apartments) canpull in one roommate -that roommate must have acompletedhousing application. They cannot be on the waitlist.

For First-time Applicants

Are First-Year Students Required to Live on Campus?
  • While the majority of first-year students live on campus, it is not required.
  • See theFirst-Year Experiencepage for information about the First-Year Experience program.
How Do I Manage My Contracts, Rent, and Payment?

Contracts

  • Contracts are accepted online and may be viewed or printed, as needed.
  • If you need official proof of residency, contact yourArea Office.
Deposit
  • The housing depositis applied to your semester rent with the exception of a one-time non-refundable $80.00 application fee.
  • You can submit your housing deposit online atePay.
  • Be sure to selectDepositson the navigation bar.
Rent
  • Rental rates are included on theDetailspage for each building on theHousing Optionsbuildings list.
  • Rental rates may be found on theRatespage, also.
Payments
  • SeePayment Optionson the Bursar website for various methods of payment to the Institute.
  • All fees including meal plans, housing, and tuition must be paid to the Office of the Bursar by the payment deadline indicated on the officialGeorgia Tech Academic Calendar.
  • Certain returning students are eligible for a delay of prepayment. A delay of prepayment will allow you to complete the housing application without making a prepayment. Since a prepayment is applied to your semester rent, the delay makes it possible for you to pay the entire semester rent according to the dates indicated by the officialGeorgia Tech Academic Calendar.
  • If you accept the delay and cancel your application at a later date, you will be billed according to the Application/Cancellation Penalty Schedule that you agreed to in the housing application.
How Do I Learn More About Rooms?

We do not offer tours of the residence halls at any time due to privacy reasons. Clickhereand select any building to take a 360º virtual tour. Visit ourRoom Specificationspage to find a description of your room type and furniture details. SuggestedItems to Bringto campus with you. Lofts may not be constructed or erected in any residence hall room; however, most rooms do contain beds that can be arranged in multiple configurations. Please seeLoftsfor more specific information. Room dimensions:

  • Traditional buildings
    • East Campus - approximately 12’ X 10’ to 15’ X 11’.
    • West Campus - approximately 15’ X 11’.
  • Suite Style
    • Harris – 12’ X 10’.
    • Woodruff – 15’ X 12’.
  • Apartments
    • Bedrooms – approximately 11’ X 8’ 10”.
    • Windows – vary from 44” X 95” to 51” X 116”.
    • Blinds are installed in all windows.
How Do I Find My Roommate(s)?
  • Roommate searches can be done in My Housing. More informationhere.
  • Room and roommate information will be available inMy Housingas soon as a room assignment has been made and can be viewed on the "Room and Roommate(s) Info" step.
Is Gender-Inclusive Housing Available?
  • Yes, Gender Inclusive Housing is available as an option to interested students
  • Read detailshere.
How Does Dining Work for Residents?
  • Meal plans may be purchased atMy Meal Plan.
    • If you have questions about your meal plan, email questions todining@gatech.eduor call404-894-5721.
  • Check theDining Serviceswebsite for restaurant openings and hours of operation – especially during holidays and semester breaks.
Where Do I Do My Laundry?
  • Convenient laundry facilities are available for all residents. The location of the laundry for each residence hall is provided on its Building Detail page which can be accessed from theBuilding List.
  • All laundry room machines are front loading THE washers, and HE detergent pods are recommended for the best results.
  • Laundry is now free in residence halls!
  • Tenth & Home Apartments have full size washers and dryers inside each apartment.
Can I Bring a Car to Campus?
  • Yes. Campus parking is arranged through.
  • If you do not have a room assignment at the time you need to purchase your parking pass, sign up for the area in which you think will be most convenient to your classes. You may exchange your parking permit at a later date or join a permit wait list if your preferred lot/deck is unavailable.
What is My Email and Campus Address?
  • After you register for classes you will be given an email account known as the "gtAccount". To activate your account, simply go topassport.gatech.edu, click on I need to activate my GT account (Students Only), and enter the required information. GT Housing will communicate with students via e-mail as much as possible. Check your GT e-mail account regularly.
  • For instructions on how to access your personal mailing address and your campus mailbox visit theGeorgia Tech Post Officewebsite.
  • Deliveries are NOT made to residence halls.
What is My GTID#?
  • The GTID # is a nine digit number used as a student's ID.
  • It will also be assigned after your application to Georgia Tech is received by admissions.
Do I Need Insurance?
  • Students are encouraged to have insurance for their personal property.
  • SeePersonal Property Insurancefor suggestions.
What is the Housing Contract Cancellation Policy?
  • If you decide not to attend Georgia Tech or to move off campus, you may cancel your housing online viaMy Housing.
  • Refer to the housing application/contract for penalties which may apply.
